Abhirami Early life and education

Abhirami, born in July 1983 to Gopikumar and Pushpa, was originally named Divya. She spent her early years in Kerala and completed her schooling from Christ Nagar English High School and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Trivandrum. After completing her pre-degree studies at Mar Ivanios College, she pursued higher education in psychology and communications at the College of Wooster in Ohio. In 2004, Abhirami moved to the United States for work, while her parents became yoga instructors in Ohio.

Career

Abhirami, who was originally named Divya, made her acting debut in Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s film Kathapurushan. She balanced her studies and work as a TV anchor for the popular show “Top Ten” on Asianet, which eventually led to a film offer. Abhirami also acted in the Malayalam serial “Akshaya Pathram” directed by Sreekumaran Thampi. She changed her screen name to Abhirami after being inspired by the name of the heroine in the film “Gunaa”. Abhirami started her acting career with minor roles in the Malayalam movie Pathram and the TV series Mercara directed by Jude Attipetty. Later, she acted in several other Malayalam movies such as Millennium Stars, Njangal Santhushtaranu, and Sradha before entering the Tamil film industry. Abhirami made her Tamil debut with the movie Vaanavil (2001) alongside Arjun, which turned out to be a commercial success. She also acted in other Tamil movies like Middle Class Madhavan and Samudhiram. One of her notable roles was in the Tamil film Virumaandi, where she portrayed a village girl from Madurai opposite Kamal Haasan. She also acted in Telugu and Kannada films, gaining popularity in the Telugu film industry. Her significant movies in these languages include Raktha Kanneeru (2003) opposite Upendra and Sri Ram (2003) opposite Shiva Rajkumar. Abhirami took a break from acting in 2004 and pursued a career in marketing. After completing her studies in the United States, she worked as a marketing director for an MNC.

Abhirami made a comeback to the film industry as a voice artist in Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam film series in 2013 after retiring from acting in 2004. She also hosted the talk show “Rishimoolam” on the Tamil TV channel Puthuyugam. In 2014, she returned to Malayalam cinema with the film “Apothecary”, portraying the role of a gynecologist. Later, she acted in “Ithu Thaanda Police” as Sub-Inspector Arundhati Varma. Additionally, Abhirami anchored the reality show “Made For Each Other” on Mazhavil Manorama.

Personal life

Abhirami Personal Life Rahul Pavanan, the grandson of writer Pavanan, is the husband of Abhirami.

Abhirami has had an extensive career in television, with a variety of roles across different programs. She has acted in the telefilm “Piyatha” and the serial “Akshaya Pathram” on Asianet, as well as the telefilm “Annie” on Kairali TV. Abhirami has also hosted the popular musical program “Top Ten” on Asianet, the talk show “Rishimoolam” on Puthuyugam, and the reality show “Made For Each Other” on Mazhavil Manorama. In addition, she has made cameo appearances in the serial “Kanakanmani” on Surya TV as Radhika, participated in the show “Flowers Oru Kodi” on Flowers TV, and acted as a mentor in “Red Carpet” on Amrita TV.
